Homemade cocktail recipes

Mojito recipe For home cooking, it is somewhat simpler than the original version, but no less tasty. As a rule, at home, soda and sugar are replaced with ready-made sweet carbonated drinks, for example, Sprite. And if necessary, rum can be replaced with other strong alcohol. Although the original recipe uses white or silver rum, which has an unexpressed taste and high sweetness.

Alcoholic Mojito cocktail

For cookingalcoholic "Mojito" according to a simple recipe At home, you can slightly vary the ingredients. For example, many people like to add more mint to their drink to enhance the refreshing effect and make the taste brighter. They also not only squeeze the lime and add juice, but also cut the fruit into pieces and add it whole to the glass, stirring it with ice and mint leaves.

Compound:

  • rum – 40-50 g, at home it is not so important to use light rum, you can also add gold, for example, Bacardi;
  • fresh mint, the number of leaves can be selected according to personal taste, the optimal value is 6-8 pieces;
  • medium-sized lime, so that you can squeeze the juice out of one half and cut the other into pieces;
  • brown sugar 3 teaspoons or sugar syrup 20 mg;
  • ice cubes;
  • "Sprite" or "Tonic".

The cooking process is extremely simple and differs little from the classic recipe.

First you need to prepare the lime. Cut the fruit into two parts, one a little larger and the other a little smaller. The smaller part needs to be cut into slices and pieces. Squeeze the juice out of most of it. Leave one slice to decorate the glass.

Wash the mint leaves, remove the sprigs and place in a glass. Then they need to be slightly mashed so as not to turn them into porridge, but at the same time so that the mint gives juice and the aroma appears. Add lime slices to the mint, stir and pour in the squeezed juice.

Add sugar and mix until completely dissolved. Pour in the rum and fill the glass with crushed ice. The best way to break ice is by wrapping it in a clean kitchen towel and hitting it several times with a rolling pin. This way the crumb will turn out optimal.

Stir the contents of the glass so that all ingredients are mixed with ice and distributed evenly throughout the glass. Fill everything with your chosen soda and garnish with a lime wedge and a sprig of mint.

In a cocktail container, mix lime zest and juice, sugar, mint (first crush until the juice is released). Keep in mind that the amount of ingredients indicated in the composition is designed for several servings of the drink, so it is better to choose a capacious jug for mixing.

Homeland: Cuba, Havana

Short story: appeared in 1930 (May 25) thanks to the resourcefulness of a bartender at the Seville Hotel in the Cuban capital, who ran out of whiskey for cocktails at a party. By replacing whiskey with white rum, the bartender glorified his creation for centuries. Another version tells us the 1940s and the cafe “La Bodeguita del Medio”. By the way, this cafe is still open, and interestingly, every year on May 25th, as the night of the birth of Mojito.

In 1928-1932, a similar drink made from mint with the addition of rum was called criollo.

It is believed that in the 16th century English pirates drank a similar drink, mixing rum, mint and lime. The creator of the mixture, either Richard or Francis Drake, called it “Drac”. The drink was quite strong, but not bad either.

Title (probable translations): from Spanish - “mosquito”, “wet”, “mojo” (in the sense of the original sauce), from African language - “little magic/witchcraft”.

Types and varieties: alcoholic (about 20% strength) and non-alcoholic (“Nojito” or “Virgin”).

Cocktail "Mojito"» regularly subject to modernization. Thanks to this, a huge number of options have appeared in which they replace:

  • Bacardi rum on Havana Club, Flor De Cana, Ron Varadero or other type of alcohol
  • soda with Sprite, Schweppes, Seven Up, tonic or sparkling mineral water
  • white cane sugar
  • lime to lemon
  • Cuban mint to its other types (curly, peppermint)

Plus, there are options in which fruits or berries are added to the main composition of the cocktail. As a result, a huge number of variations of the original recipe appeared.

Effect on the body: invigorates the body, calms the nerves, refreshes in the summer heat; contains many trace elements and minerals, improves the functioning of the stomach and heart, thanks to vitamin C (contained in lime) it prevents colds and prolongs youth.

How to drink correctly: There are no strict rules. Served Mojito cocktail in large glasses (at least 0.5 liters), most often highball glasses, large glasses and even in jars. Drink it cold through a straw without a snack. You can try serving Cuban snacks with it, but this is basically unnecessary. The drink is drunk either to quench thirst or as a dessert after the main meal.

Price: different. Depends on the bar. It can even cost 30 US dollars per glass.

Important: the quality of the components that make up the drink, especially if you prepare Mojito at home; mood and atmosphere of the holiday.

Famous fans: Ernest Hemingway (double rum version of “Double Papa”), Fidel Castro, Adrianis Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Al Pacino, Demi Moore, Madonna.

The Mojito cocktail will be offered to you in almost any bar in any country. But if you decide to make Mojito at home , then you should definitely know that there are general rules for preparing the drink, regardless of the recipe you choose.

  • The mint should be thoroughly mashed, but not crushed (otherwise it will clog the straw and prevent you from enjoying the drink). This must be done separately for each portion.
  • It’s better to crack the ice, this will better mask the bitterness of the alcohol.
  • if instead of soda or mineral water you start using sweet carbonated drinks like Sprite, then the amount of sugar in the recipe can be reduced or removed completely (depending on personal preferences)
  • All specified components in recipes can be increased several times, observing the given proportions. As a result, you will receive a large volume of drink for good company.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with the recipe – create your own unique “Mojito”.

We will tell you how to prepare Mojito in different versions, starting with a recipe that has become a classic.

The main proportion for any Mojito:

Divide the glass into approximately 3 parts.
